Secure Downloads
Secure downloads allows you to store files on a non-public part of the server and strictly control access to those files. Downloads are logged against individual users.
The procedure for setting up a download is as follows:
- Transfer the file from your PC to the server.
- Set up a Secure Download record.
- Set the access permissions for the Secure Download record.
- Add the Secure Download to a page.
How to transfer a file to the server to use as a secure download.
Take the 'Upload secure file' option from the Applications Setup section of the main admin menu.
- Click the 'Browse' button and select the file you want to upload.
- If you want to rename the file as you transfer it, enter the new name into the 'rename' field – this is optional.
- Click on 'Begin Upload'
The upload may take a few minutes depending on the file size and connection speed.
Please do not change page while the upload is in progress.
How to create a secure download record.
Take the 'Secure downloads' option from the Applications Setup section of the main admin menu.
- Click on 'Set up a new download'.
- Provide a name for the new download (required).
- Select the file that will be downloaded using the
button. - You may enter notes on the download if you wish (optional).
- Press 'submit'.
How to set the access permissions for the Secure Download record.
- From the secure downloads list, click on 'Security'. A pop-up window opens.
- Using the three drop-down lists, select the user, user group or user type you want to grant download access to. Press the 'Read Only' button next to the appropriate drop-down list.
Note: The 'Read+Write' button (if shown) is not used for secure downloads and should be ignored.
- To remove a permission, click the 'Delete' link next to the user, group or user type.
- To allow all users to download the file, select 'All users' from the 'Add User' list and click the 'Read Only' button. This is useful if you allow visitors to register for guest access and want to count those downloads.
- When you have finished setting the access permissions, simply close the pop-up window.
How to monitor secure downloads
To view per download:
Take the 'Secure downloads' option from the Applications Setup section of the main admin menu.
- Click on the last download date next to the download name.
To view per user:
Take the 'List site users' option from the main admin menu.
- Click on the 'Downloads' link next to the user name.
